Bafana Did Us Proud
“Bafana Bafana are out of the World Cup but they won the hearts and minds of all South Africans and the whole world,” said the chief organiser of the 2010 tournament, Dr Danny Jordaan, after South Africa’s final group stage match against France in Bloemfontein last night.

Bafana Bow Out
South Africa had looked to be on their way to a miraculous escape out of Group A and into the knockout stage of the World Cup after leading 2-0 against ten men France. But Les Bleus scored a consolation to knock the sails out of Bafana and out of the World Cup.

South Africa's World Cup campaign is now left in tatters as they lost 3-0 to Uruguay. Diego Forlan scored a brace, his second from a controversial spot-kick that saw goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune sent off. Alvaro Pereira added a third late on for the South Americans.

South African opera singer Siphiwo Ntshebe has died from meningitis, his record label Epic Records has announced. The 34-year-old was chosen by Nelson Mandela to perform at the opening ceremony of the World Cup.

Bidvest Wits have been crowned the Nedbank Cup champions after beating AmaZulu 3-0 at the newly-revamped Soccer City Stadium on Saturday.
