Emanuele Giaccherini should be called up for Italy's Euro 2012 squad, according to Goal.com readers
The former Cesena man has regularly forced his way into the Juventus first XI with his performances of late and our poll found that you believe that he should get an Azzurri call
The national coach has found himself short of options for attacking midfielders in recent times and Giaccherini's excellent run of form for Juventus has come at a good time, with the Azzurri's friendly against Germany on February 29 just around the corner.
And when we asked whether the ex-Cesena man should get his chance for the national side, a whopping 83.66 per cent of 3232 voters agreed that Giaccherini is deserving of an Italy call.
Only 528 readers disagreed that the 26-year-old is ready for his big shot with the Azzurri, and many of your comments were reflective of that.
Adriano from Canada says that the Juventus effect is a big factor: "history speaks for it self.... a strong juve means a strong italian national team...06 & 82 are perfect examples... and this statement was said to me by a 60 year old inter fan!!!....those old guys know more about calcio then they do about their wives"
Kavtz, also from Canada, thinks Giaccherini is a symbol for change: "If he continues the way he is playing now, why not?. Spineless players like Montolivio, and Aquilani are already wearing the Italian jersey, at least he will play with all his heart. DiNatale and Miccoli should play @ Euro 2012."
Meanwhile, Matt in USA believes that somebody off the radar is deserving of a chance: "I like Giaccherini...but really anyone who knows anything about football talent would select Gianluca Sansone to the national team. It's shame he is stuck in Serie B. Best Italian footballer over the past two seasons besides Cassano."
Joseph in mt says we might be best reserving judgement until after he's played a friendly game with the Azzurri: "And once again Juve is the only team that provides something to the national team. A suggestion... try players in the italian national team, then decide later. trying costs nothing. Giaccherini is worth at least trying."
