Paraguayan attacker Salvador Cabanas was shot in the head last Monday and underwent surgery on his injuries shortly after. The 29-year-old's condition had since been critical, but stable. Cabanas' situation is now improving though, and the forward has recognised his relatives.

"The evolution of Salvador's situations has been positive. He has been under sedation most of the time. However, we've noticed that he begins to awaken at the moments we reduce the sedation in order to assess his condition," said Ernesto Martinez Duhart, the neurologist who operated Cabanas.

"He recognised his family and that is very satisfactory. The plan is to keep him under sedation for a while, so he can recover easier. His critical body functions are improving and we can only hope that his situation keeps evolving well."

Duhart also made it clear that the fact that the bullet hasn't been removed shouldn't be too much of a problem, claiming that the human body is capable of accepting the presence of any metals.
