Goal.com Reach One Million Facebook Fans
Goal.com reaches yet another benchmark...
The world’s largest new media football community – founded in 2004 by Gianluigi Longinotti-Buitoni – developed its social media activity in March 2010 and has enjoyed a surge in followers since then. As of January 4, 2011 there were 1,002,170 Facebook users who had ‘liked’ Goal.com’s pages.
Between November 3, 2010 and December 3, 2010, there were also more than 82 million post views across Goal.com’s Facebook pages – a 64% increase which continues to rise.
Each edition of Goal.com uses its Facebook page to bring the latest news, editorials, exclusive interviews and specialist Facebook content such as competitions, opinion pieces and open forum features to its followers.
Goal.com International’s Facebook page alone reached over 300,000 fans on New Years Eve, and the overall number is expected to continue to increase over the coming months.
Goal.com Social Media Specialist Kunwar Ali said, "We have not just grown in number but in terms of fan interactions as well.
"The real engagement of the fans is better measured by what happens after the 'Like' button is clicked rather than measuring the click itself and the more important metric will be actual interactions with the brand.
“We have recorded 82 million Facebook post views in the last four weeks and the number is always on the rise. With the great team we have, we are hoping to double this number in the near future."
Goal.com is the only truly worldwide voice in football, with 500 reporters - at least one in every country - offering local coverage. The result is representative, informed reporting on the beautiful game and Goal.com attracts over 15 million unique monthly users across its 22 editions.
This latest achievement continues Goal.com’s momentum into 2011 having been named Best Football Website in the prestigious Soccerlens Awards in December 2010, ahead of the likes of Guardian Football and BBC Football.
