Lars Unnerstall is a close second, but Jaroslav Drobny takes the honours this week for his heroic display against Hannover. The Czech shot-stopper made save after save and was only beaten by a candidate for goal of the year - Jan Schlaudraff's thunderous volley. In any case, Drobny alone ensured a point for HSV.

Timothy Chandler defended well and pounced on a mistake to score the only goal in Nurnberg's 1-0 victory against Kaiserslautern, ending an eight-game winless streak for the Bavarians. In Dortmund, Felipe Santana and Mats Hummels absolutely nullified Schalke duo Raul and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, and the Brazilian added a goal to boot. Also in the Ruhr derby, Marcel Schmelzer was a candidate for man of the match for tirelessly bombing up and down the left flank, providing an assist and proving a rock at the back. Finally, on Sunday Naldo put on a virtuoso defensive display for Bremen against Stuttgart, and netted a brilliant free-kick to put the match out of reach.

Augsburg have had a difficult start in their inaugural Bundesliga season, but Daniel Brinkmann put the promoted side closer to safety as they earned their second win of the season, thanks in part to his opener. In Koln, Roman Neustadter was one of Gladbach's stand-out stars in his side's 3-0 derby victory, dictating the flow of play in midfield and winning the ball back like a terrier. On Sunday, Marco Caligiuri had his best display of the season as Mainz upset Bayern Munich. The 27-year-old ran his socks off and shot at will, and was rewarded for his efforts as he hammered home an unstoppable goal to make it 2-1 against the Bavarians.

FORWARDS

Mike HANKE

Eren DERDIYOK

On Friday, Mike Hanke ended his goal drought, and at no better time than in the Rhine derby: his first two goals of the season sunk rivals Koln. Saturday's match between Hertha Berlin and Leverkusen provided six goals, five of which were scored by Eren Derdiyok (three) and Pierre-Michel Lasogga (two). The Swiss single-handedly overturned a 2-0 deficit as he scored a hat-trick, but the Germany Under-21 international responded late in the game as he completed his brace to secure a point for the hosts.
