Inigo Martinez was important for Real Sociedad in their 3-2 victory over Real Betis in Seville, as he defended astutely and scored the winner in injury time with a stunning long-range strike. Inigo Lopez struck the only goal for Granada in their 1-0 victory at Athletic Bilbao just after the half-hour mark, and was strong and confident in central defence. Asier Del Horno made a rare but productive appearance at left-back for Levante as the Valencian club returned to winning ways with a 4-0 demolition of Sporting Gijon.

Javad Nekounam was an important presence in midfield for Osasuna against Espanyol in Barcelona and scored what would eventually turn out to be the winner in their 2-1 triumph. Tino Costa and Jeremy Mathieu once again rose to the fore for Valencia in their 2-1 away win against Rayo Vallecano, the former bagging the winner and the latter assisting in the first goal.
