Tunisia’s Fahid Ben Khalfallah Rues World Cup Elimination

The Valenciennes midfielder is struggling to accept his team losing their World Cup ticket on the final day of qualifying...

Tunisia
After a qualifying campaign in which his team led from the first day but then relinquished control of the group on the back of a poor showing in Mozambique, Tunisian international midfielder Fahid Ben Khalfallah has explained that he is having a hard time accepting what happened.

“Honestly, it was a big objective," he told club side Valenciennes' official website. "Playing in a World Cup is the best thing for a football player. To have gotten so close to our goal but then to miss it is hard to accept. It’s been two years since we started working and trying to qualify, and now we have the impression that we did all of it for nothing.

“But if we’re not there, then we don’t deserve it. From a sporting aspect, it’s my toughest moment. Missing a World Cup and disappointing all Tunisians...

"However, it remains a football match and there are many worse things [that can happen],” he added.

Ben Khalfallah started the match against the Mambas on Saturday but was unable to reproduce his club form in the national team's jersey.
