Join Goal.com in saluting another player worthy of global recognition
Goal.com World Player of the Week #116: Marco Fabian
Club: Chivas Guadalajara
Country: Mexico
Age: 22
Role: Midfielder
Achievement: Scored twice against Barcelona in a pre-season friendly
Marco Fabian was almost an unknown figure in the world of football until last week, when he became one of the most talked-about players. He scored twice against Barcelona for Chivas Guadalajara in a pre-season friendly - and both strikes were truly memorable.
First, the 22-year-old fired home a stunning right-footed shot from outside the penalty area to equalise, and then netted a spectacular scissor kick to send Chivas on their way to a suprising 4-1 victory over the Spanish and European champions.
Of course, it was just a friendly and Barcelona were not at full strength, but full marks must be given to Fabian for his fabulous efforts. The Mexican tormented Pep Guardiola’s side on the night and demonstrated that the Catalan giants can be beaten.
Congratulations to Marco Fabian, Goal.com's 116th World Player of the Week!

Honourable Mentions
Nani - Manchester United
The Portugal international winger was on fire in the second-half of the Community Shield on Sunday as he scored a injury-time goal to win the match against city-rivals Manchester City. Roberto Mancini’s side were 2-0 up at half-time but Nani turned on the style after the break, equalising with a chip just before the hour-mark and then netting the winner in the final seconds to put the finishing touches to a exhilarating 3-2 victory.
Igor De Camargo - Borussia Monchengladbach
Bayern Munich are expected by many to win the Bundesliga this season and were the favourites to defeat Borussia Monchengladbach in their opening game of the 2011-12 campaign this season. However, De Camargo put a spanner in the works as he scored the only goal of the match at the Allianz Arena just after the hour mark to win all three points for the visitors.
Mario Gotze - Borussia Dortmund
The Germany international playmaker continues to thrill everyone who watches him, and he was at the heart of the defending Bundesliga champions’ 3-1 victory over Hamburg on Friday. The highlights show a great goal and two superb assists, but the 19-year-old covered as much ground as anyone on the pitch before his substitution.
Dwayne De Rosario - DC United
De Rosario completed a brilliant hat-trick against Toronto to salvage a 3-3 draw for his team, who were reduced to 10 men after just seven minutes.
Mohamed Ibrahim - Egypt Under-20
Ibrahim scored a hat-trick that saw the Pharaohs storm through to the Round of 16 in the Fifa Under-20 World Cup in emphatic fashion, with a one-sided 4-0 victory against Austria.
