Cesc Fabregas is rated as one of the best and more complete midfielders in world football and he demonstrated exactly that in the past seven days, both for his club Barcelona and country Spain.

The 24-year-old turned in an imperious performance against Villarreal in Barca's opening game of the 2011-12 Primera Division campaign on Monday, as he scored a brilliant goal in their 5-0 victory at Camp Nou. Fabregas was all over the Yellow Submarine's midfield and defence, and came close to adding a second too.

Then on Friday evening in a friendly international against Chile at St. Gallen, Fabregas came off the bench to lead Spain to a narrow 3-2 victory. He equalised for his country on 71 minutes and then scored the winner in injury time, making a strong case for his inclusion in the starting line-up from now on.

Fabregas was head and shoulders above everyone at Arsenal and it was clear for one and all to see that he needed to play along the best players to further exhibit his class. And now that he is indeed featuring alongside some of the greatest footballers on the planet, the Catalan is set to get even better.

Honourable Mentions

Mesut Ozil - Germany

The Real Madrid playmaker continued to exhibit his class for his country Germany as he scored twice and pulled the strings in their comprehensive 6-2 victory over Austria in the Euro 2012 qualifier on Friday evening. The win secured the European giants' a berth in the finals next week.

Suni Olsen - Faroe Islands

Olsen may have eventually ended up on the losing side as the Faroes lost 1-0 to Italy in their Euro 2012 qualifier on Friday, but he was a constant threat for the former world champions. He was unlucky to see his left-footed drive come off the post and was one of the brightest and more active players on the pitch.

Wilfried Bony - Cote d'Ivoire

Cote d'Ivoire beat Rwanda 5-0 in an African Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday, and two of the goals came from little-known Vitesse striker Wilfried Bony. The 22-year-old made a real case for his inclusion in future matches, and with the Elephants having already qualified for the 2012 Afcon, this performance will be crucial for him possibly landing a spot in the squad for the showpiece event in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Park Chu-Young - South Korea

Park Chu-Young hit the headlines last week for his controversial move from Monaco to Arsenal, but he capped it with his first ever senior international hat-trick. Chu-Young scored thrice as South Korea hammered Lebanon 6-0.

Hiroshi Kiyotake - Japan

Kiyotake provided the assist for Maya Yoshida's winner for Japan as they beat North Korea in their 1-0 in a 2014 World Cup finals qualifier. It was only his second game for his country and was once again a substitute appearance, but he now has given a total of three assists as he created two goals in Japan's 3-0 win against South Korea last month.
