Goal.com World Player of the Week #125: Gonzalo Higuain
Club:
Real Madrid
Country:
Argentina
Age:
23
Role:
Striker
Achievement:
Scored a hat-trick against Chile

Just before the international break, Gonzalo Higuain scored a hat-trick in Real Madrid's 4-0 away victory over Espanyol in the Primera Division, and he followed that up with another sensational treble for Argentina.

Alejandro Sabella’s side commenced their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign with a convincing 4-1 win against Chile in Buenos Aires, and Higuain netted thrice in their triumph.

The 23-year-old opened the scoring for the South American powerhouse after just eight minutes in front of his home crowd and later crafted a brilliant through-ball for Lionel Messi to slot home.

Higuain added two more to his tally in the second half to round up what in his words was “a perfect week”.

Congratulations to Gonzalo Higuain, Goal.com's 125th World Player of the Week!

Honourable Mentions

Neymar – Brazil

The Santos forward was once again pulling the strings for Brazil in the attacking department, as he scored the only goal in their 1-0 victory over Costa Rica in a friendly international. The 19-year-old could have had a second had he not hit the frame of the goal.

Eliseu – Portugal

Eliseu is not a regular first choice for Portugal but he showed his worth in their 5-3 win against Iceland in a Euro 2012 qualifier. The Malaga player scored a goal and provided two assists in Porto.

Loic Remy – France

The Olympique de Marseille forward has been in excellent form this season, and he continued that streak with a superb display against Albania. Remy ran the show in France’s 3-0 victory in their Euro 2012 qualifier at home and capped his performance with a goal.
