Welcome to Goal.com's regular feature: Goal.com World Player of the Week. Each week our worldwide team of editors will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by Goal.com International, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday. It won't necessarily be the best player in the world - at least not usually - but whoever we nominate will have accomplished something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...

Goal.com World Player of the Week #126: Mike Havenaar
Club: Ventforet Kofu
Country: Japan
Age:
24
Role:
Striker
Achievement:
Scored twice for both club and country

Mike Havenaar was in top form over the past week for the Japan national team and his club, Ventforet Kofu, which helped him consolidate his place as one of the better strikers currently playing in Asia.

He scored two goals on his first start for Japan in midweek against Tajikistan in an 8-0 victory in a 2014 World Cup qualifier. The 24-year-old headed home Yuichi Komano's cross to give the Asian powerhouse the lead early in the game, before adding his second after the half-time break.

Then, four days later, Havenaar netted another brace, this time in club football. He scored two goals in a 4-0 victory against Cerezo Osaka in the J-League to drag Ventforet Kofu out of the relegation zone.

Havenaar is now the top goalscorer in Japan, and his impressive performances have not gone unnoticed in Europe, with clubs in Germany, France and the Netherlands reportedly monitoring his progress.

Congratulations to Mike Havenaar, Goal.com's 126th World Player of the Week!
