Spanish Cumpleanos: Rinus Michels

1928: Rinus Michels: Former Dutch striker Michels spent his entire playing career with Ajax, scoring 122 goals in 264 games for the Amsterdam club. While he was reasonably successful as a player, Michels excelled as a coach leading the Netherlands to a World Cup final in 1974 and bettering that with European Championship success in 1988. As coach of Ajax he won eight trophies including the European cup in 1971. Michels had two stints in the Primera Liga, both in charge of Barcelona where he managed to win a league title and a Copa del Rey.

1964: Ernesto Valverde:
In his playing career Valverde played as a forward at Espanyol, Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao and Mallorca with his greatest success being a Cup Winners Cup title with Barca in 1989. He won won cap for Spain and after retiring immediately turned his hand to coaching at Athletic Bilbao. He later coach Espanyol and won a Greek league title in his only season with Olympiacos before joining Villarreal last summer. He was sacked earlier this month after an unsuccessful spell in charge of the Yellow Submarine.

1983: Mikel Arruabarrena: Centre forward Arruabarrena came through the ranks at Athletic Bilbao but after failing to make the breakthrough to the first team switched to Osasuna and later Xerez. After a brief stint in Polish football he returned to Spain where he now plays in Segunda Division B for SD Eibar.
