Malaga striker Victor Obinna proved the hero for the Andalusian outfit as he scored the winner in their 2-1 win over Espanyol at La Rosaleda with a strike 15 minutes from time. The Nigerian forward was a first half substitute and scored for the second game in a row to ensure Malaga have now taken 10 of a possible 12 points as they push themselves above the Blanc i Blau in the Primera Liga table. Juan Ramon Lopez Muniz's side are now seven points from the relegation places after their recent run of form but face a difficult task maintaining this form with a trip to Camp Nou to take on champions Barcelona next on the agenda.

It was not a good weekend for Sevilla midfielder Didier Zokora. Despite a solid performance in Los Nervionenses 3-1 win away to mallorca, the Ivorian hard man saw red late on, earning a second yellow card for dissent and must now serve a suspension as the race for a UEFA Champions League place enters a crucial period. Christian Romaric played 15 minutes of the tie without excelling as Sevilla out an end to the Balearic outfits 100 per cent home record. Cameroonian Pierre Webo came off the bench for the hosts but it will be a game he will want to forget as the striker spurned two glorious opportunities to get Gregorio Manzano's side back into the game.

Angolan forward Manucho had a good display for Valladolid as his side looked to have taken all three points from their game away to Osasuna but a late strike from Carlos Aranda ensured a share of the spoils for the Pamplona side. It was a heartbreaking goal for Valladolid who remain in the relegation zone as a result of the late equaliser.

Barcelona thumped Racing Santander 4-0 to remain top of the Primera Liga table and Ivory Coast international Yaya Toure played the full 90 minutes of the contest for the dominant Blaugrana.

Nigerian striker Kalu Uche was a second half substitute as Almeria secured a vital win over Atletico Madrid. Uche proved a handful for the Atleti defence in the final half hour as a late Pablo Piatti effort gave the Andalusian side all the points. Cameroonian midfielder Modeste M'Bami did not have one of his better games for Almeria but they managed to hold on for the win which leaves them six points awat from the drop.
