Malaga striker Victor Obinna proved the hero for the Andalusian outfit as he scored the winner in their 2-1 win over Espanyol at La Rosaleda with a strike 15 minutes from time. The Nigerian forward was a first half substitute and scored for the second game in a row to ensure Malaga have now taken 10 of a possible 12 points as they push themselves above the Blanc i Blau in the Primera Liga table. Juan Ramon Lopez Muniz's side are now seven points from the relegation places after their recent run of form but face a difficult task maintaining this form with a trip to Camp Nou to take on champions Barcelona next on the agenda.
It was not a good weekend for Sevilla midfielder Didier Zokora. Despite a solid performance in Los Nervionenses 3-1 win away to mallorca, the Ivorian hard man saw red late on, earning a second yellow card for dissent and must now serve a suspension as the race for a UEFA Champions League place enters a crucial period. It was a heartbreaking goal for Valladolid who remain in the relegation zone as a result of the late equaliser.
Barcelona thumped Racing Santander 4-0 to remain top of the Primera Liga table and Ivory Coast international Yaya Toure played the full 90 minutes of the contest for the dominant Blaugrana.
Nigerian striker Kalu Uche was a second half substitute as Almeria secured a vital win over Atletico Madrid.
