Spain Coach Vicente Del Bosque 'Relatively Happy' With Euro 2012 Draw
The national boss has passed comment on La Roja's opposition to retain their European title...
By Paul Macdonald
La Roja are the top seeds in Group I along with Czech Republic, Scotland, Lithuania and minnows Liechtenstein, one of three sections that contain just five teams.
Del Bosque welcomed the fact that the his side will play less matches, allowing his players to stay fresh, and he commented to journalists post-draw, “We are facing teams that are not in the World Cup, but nowadays in football there is very little difference between sides.
“Liechtenstein seems the easiest but against the other three competitors we will have to be very careful.”
The former Real Madrid coach was also quick to add that his priority at the moment is to continue his preparations for the World Cup in South Africa, and that the European Championship will take precedence from next season.
He commented, “For now, the first thought is to focus on the World Cup, and now that we know the pairings we can prepare to start work in September.”
Finally, Del Bosque added that Spain’s final friendly fixture before heading to South Africa will be against Poland at a yet unconfirmed location.
He concluded, “We [Spain] will certainly be playing against Poland, but it has not been decided where this match will be played.”
Spain will be bidding to retain the title that they clinched in 2008 thanks to a Fernando Torres goal versus Germany in the final.
