Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz has declared himself to be pleased with his side’s draw after the Euro 2012 qualifying groups were revealed in Poland earlier today.
Denmark, Norway, Cyprus and Iceland represent the opposition for Querioz’s side, in one of the three five-team groups in the draw.
The coach, who has guided Portugal to the World Cup finals in South Africa this summer, told journalists after the match that he believes his side have a good chance of progressing.
He said, “It’s a good group for us, playing teams with different styles of football. It will be a group that will produce good performances and will be exciting, and I think that we can qualify.
“We have to prepare well, as always, but I think in the end we will have reached the European Championship finals.”
Queiroz hopes that the reduction in fixtures after being included in a five team group will allow him extra time with his players and also create a fixture list that is suited to their schedule.
He added, “Considering the teams we have, this allows us to play around with the dates a little, and it will give us extra time to train and work. It is rare to have this opportunity and we will try to use it.”
