Best Bet Of 2010 Series: Spain To Win The World Cup

Our expert fancied the pre-tournament favourites to live up to the hype...

Tis the season to be betting. To celebrate the festive period we've asked several of Goal.com's contributors to nominate their best bet of 2010. We conclude today with Goal.com's betting expert David Mole who backed Spain to be celebrating in South Africa this summer

Tip: Spain to win World Cup @ 5.50

I had a divine moment of inspiration in May where I decided that Spain were going to win the World Cup.  I was certain that no one could touch the Spanish and in the end I placed my largest stake of 2010 on Spain to lift the trophy for the first time at odds of 5.50.  It seemed generous, given that in my mind they had already won the thing before a ball was even kicked.

It's a good job I had placed my bet online, as in truth I would have probably ripped up a physical betting slip on the 16th June after they lost 1-0 to the Swiss.  However, the true skill of La Furia Roja shone through and watching them lift the trophy wasn’t just a victory for football, no it was more important than that... it was a victory for my betting balance!
