Saturday's Bet of the Day: Early problems for Liverpool at Norwich
The Reds will be looking to turn their Premier League form around when they visit the Canaries and Adam Bate thinks Dalglish's men might do it, but only after conceding first
Liverpool’s dismal run of form is threatening to overshadow what should be a triumphant season for the club. With the Carling Cup already secured and an FA Cup final to look forward to, there have been plenty of high points of late. But the stench of the Reds’ Premier League form is hard to shake off.
Kenny Dalglish’s men have now lost a staggering seven of their last 10 league games and if that sort of form continues, the vast investment of the summer could – unthinkably – yield only a bottom-half finish.
Their only Premier League away wins in 2012 have come at Wolves and Blackburn as they have lost the other six. That needs to change against Norwich at Carrow Road and Liverpool are 15/16 (1.94) favourites with 188Bet to do just that.As Brendan Rodgers and his Swansea drink in the plaudits and take the acclaim, Paul Lambert’s Norwich side have quietly gone about the business of acquiring points.
The Canaries can still achieve a top-half finish and – incredibly – a win here would lift them level on points with Liverpool.
Norwich are 28/11 (3.55) with 188Bet to get the three points. The draw is available at 23/10 (3.3).
In the goalscorer markets, now would be an excellent time for Grant Holt to continue scoring and press his claims for an unlikely Euro 2012 berth with England.
Wayne Rooney is the only Englishman to score more Premier League goals in this campaign and Holt is 13/2 (7.5) with 188Bet to open the scoring here. For the visitors, Andy Carroll is a rival to Holt for the role of Plan B targetman for England in the summer.
After being derided for much of the season, Carroll popped up with a crucial FA Cup semi-final winner earlier his month and is 6/1 (7.0) to net first in this one.
But an early Liverpool goal seems unlikely given their 2012 record – they have scored just four first-half goals in 15 Premier League games this year.
The pick of the bets is to back Norwich to score first at 7/5 (2.4) with 188Bet.
For the Value Bet, expect Liverpool’s quality to show before the end – and so the price of 22/1 (23.0) for Norwich/Liverpool in the HT/FT betting is a tempting one.
