VIDEO: Top 10 Goal Of The Season Contenders Of 2010-11 So Far

With a few months of the season already passed and the international inter-lull in full swing, it's time to review the goals of the season so far.

By 101 Great Goals

With the international break affording us a pause in the hectic football schedule it's time to take stock of the 10 best goals of the year so far.

Whether any future goals will be able to oust these strikes for the award as the best goal of the 2010-11 season remains to be seen. All we can say with certainty though is that the bar has been set very, very high.

1. Sergio Canales (England U19 Spain U19, July 28, 2010) - As the new season got underway, the young Spanish pups showed their invention against the Young Lions pulling off a sublime free-kick routine that they executed to perfection.

2. Gareth Bale (Stoke v Tottenham, August 21, 2010) - The Tottenham winger laid down his stall for the season cracking home a peach of a volley to silence the noisy Britianna Stadium.

3. Brice Jovial (assist Hassane Alla) (Reims v Le Havre, August 24, 2010) - Sometimes the goal comes secondary to the assist, and this is the archetypal example of that. Hats off to Hassane Alla for his world class skill in the build up to this French classic.

4. Hamit Altintop (Kazakhstan v Turkey, September 3, 2010) - The Turkish and Bayern Munich midfielder displayed flawless technique to score a wondrous volley in the Euro 2012 qualifiers.

5. Cleo (Partizan Belgrade v Hajduk Kula, September 4, 2010) - The Brazilian marksman showed immaculate control, poise and execution to hold off three defenders before finishing with a perfect overhead-volley.

6. Carlos Vela (Arsenal v Bolton, September 11, 2010) - The pass-pass-pass masters of English football, Arsenal, put together an incredible team move before their young Mexican forward sealed things off with a crisp finish.

7. Jari Litmanen (AC Oulu v FC Lahti, September 18, 2010) - Proving the age is no barrier, 37-year-old Finnish legend Litmanen reminded the world of his presence with a breathtaking overhead-kick.

8. Dimitar Berbatov (his second of the match) (Manchester United v Liverpool, September 19, 2010) - The overhead-kicks keep coming as Manchester United's Bulgarian marksman netted a beauty against the old enemy.

9. Andrea Pirlo (Parma v Milan, October 2, 2010) - Setting the bar for long-range missiles, the AC Milan schemer produced a world-class rocket from over 40-yards out that unstoppably pieced the apex between the bar and post.

10. Mattie Burrows (Glentoran v Portadown, October 5, 2010) (pictured) - Words can barely do this sensational goal justice as the little known Irish striker became an instant worldwide star with a ridiculous flying, pirouette backheel goal.
