Alberto Gilardino: I Would Like To Play Alongside Giampaolo Pazzini For Italy
Alberto Gilardino would welcome the opportunity to lead the line for Italy alongside Sampdoria hitman Giampaolo Pazzini.
By Andrew McLean
The Fiorentina hitman began in the centre of a three-pronged attack with Antonio Cassano and Giuseppe Rossi and went on to be replaced by Giampaolo Pazzini just before the hour mark, as the Italian media begin to question the possibility of the two playing together for the Azzurri.
After the match Gilardino said to Rai Sport: "We are learning to move to prevent the ball going backwards as much as possible.
"The more competition the merrier. I would like to play alongside him [Pazzini]," Gilardino added when asked if the Viola striker would like to play alongside Pazzini.
The two frontmen have very similar styles and it will be interesting if Italy experiment with the them together in their front line; but at the moment Pazzini's Sampdoria colleague Cassano continues to make himself undroppable.
