Penarol's Alejandro Martinuccio set for Fluminense switch - report
The Argentine no. 10 has completed a medical for the current national champions and is likely to sign a contract in the coming days, after starring in the Copa Libertadores
By Daniel Edwards
Martinuccio, out of contract in Montevideo on August 1, is currently in Rio de Janeiro and successfully passed a medical with the current Brasileirao champions, according to Globoesporte.
The 23-year-old will therefore sign a four-year deal in the coming days, and fill the creative gap in the team left by Conca's recent switch to Guangzhou Evergrande in the Chinese Superleague.
"I'm sorry, but I still can't comment on this matter," was Martinuccio's only reply when questioned at his hotel, located in the southern part of Rio on Monday evening.
The player was one of the stars of Penarol's march to the Copa Libertadores final in 2011, which was cut short by a 2-1 defeat by Santos last month.
Meanwhile, Palmeiras are readying a claim for financial compensation from their Serie A rivals. They assert that the Argentine signed an agreement with them before deciding on Flu, and have a buy-out clause worth up to €22.5 million.
A lawyer for the Rio club, Daniel Cravo, asserted though that the document was not binding, and that Fluminense should not be subject to any fine on completing the transfer.
