Ronaldo hits back at physician over claims of heart problems at World Cup 1998
The former Inter, AC Milan and Real Madrid forward has rejected Bruno Caru's comments regarding why he nearly missed the showcase event 14 years ago against the hosts

Brazil legend Ronaldo has hit back at a physician's claims that the former striker was suffering from heart problems before the Selecao's 3-0 loss to France in the 1998 World Cup final.
The events running up to the finale of the showcase event 14 years ago have always been shrouded in mystery and been followed by wild conspiracy theories after the forward was left off the team sheet, only to then appear back in the starting line-up before kick-off.
Physician Bruno Caru recently told Mediaset that he had re-examined the medical records of the Brazilian and heart problems were to blame, not an epileptic fit as many claim.
"He [Ronaldo] had a fall in heart rate and blood pressure. It was like he was in a vegetative state. Roberto Carlos saw Ronaldo in convulsions and thought it was an epileptic fit. Ronaldo was quickly transported to the hospital and went through a series of neurological examinations. The ECG examination was not considered right," Caru claims.
However, on his official Twitter account, Ronaldo has refuted the physician's claims.
"It's sad after 14 years some opportunist is still attempting to gain international media attention with controversy about World Cup 98."
Ronaldo retired from football in February 2011 after ending his career in his native Brazil with Corinthians.
