Highly rated Wolfsburg attacker Edin Dzeko has been rewarded for his fine form at both club and country level in 2009 by being voted Bosnian Footballer of the Year.

Dzeko helped Wolfsburg to Bundesliga glory last season by scoring 26 league goals. Additionally, he was on target four times in six Champions League appearances this term.

"I'm happy for this award, especially for receiving it in my home town. This was one very successful season both for club and country. I became a champion of Germany with my club and although we didn't manage to reach the World Cup due to a play-off [defeat] against Portugal, we hope to qualify for the European Championships," Dzeko was quoted as saying by reporters.

"There are many people to thank for this success; my team-mates from club and country, coaches, but also the great support of fans and family. I'm grateful to all of them and will share this happiness with them."

Dzeko won the award ahead of competition from Wolfsburg team-mate Zvjezdan Misimovic and last year's winner Vedad Ibisevic (Hoffenheim).
