Harry Kewell: Australia Can Host A Better World Cup 2018/2022 Than 2000 Olympic Games
It's a big endorsement by the Aussie lynch-pin.
Socceroo Harry Kewell is confident Australia can do a better job at hosting the 2018/2022 World Cup than they did hosting the 2000 Olympic Games.
“Everything that I have seen so far and been involved with looks very impressive and hopefully it will convince the people who vote to pick us,’’ Kewell told australia2018-2022.com.au, the official website for Australia's bid.
“I have no doubt that Australia would do an even better job than we did with the Sydney Olympics Games in 2000 Everyone still says they were the best ever."
While the winning bids will be announced in December next year, Kewell is focused on the pitch side competition as he prepares for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
And with the 24-man FIFA Executive Committee voting panel watching intently a credible showing by the national team would certainly not hurt Australia’s credibility - though Kewell is unsure of how his side will fare.
“To be honest it's too early to tell. It's all about our form and team work just before the World Cup starts,’’ he said.
“What we are like now does not count for anything if we don't do well at the World Cup."
