Aussies In Europe: Harry Kewell Strike Takes Galatasaray Top

There's a familiar feeling to the latest edition of the Aussies In Europe wrap.

Scored his ninth Turkish Super League goal of the season to get his side out of jail at home against Genclerbirligi, converting a low cross with a simple tap in on 77 minutes to take them into first place. Missed a flurry of good first half opportunities though and was rested for the club’s Europa League dead rubber.

Tim Cahill, Lucas Neill (Everton, England)

Full games for both Aussies in the 1-1 draw with Birmingham at Goodison Park, Cahill coming close on a few occasions to scoring. The duo were given a rest from European action in midweek.

Mark Schwarzer, (Fulham, England)

Helped his side into the knockout stages of the Europa League in their 3-2 away win over Basel in midweek before playing a full game and keeping a clean sheet as they thumped Manchester United 3-0 at Craven Cottage on the weekend.

Brett Emerton, Vince Grella (Blackburn Rovers, England)

Grella played a full game as Allardyce’s side crashed to a 2-0 defeat at home against Tottenham. Emerton is sidelined with a groin injury.

Mark Bresciano (Palermo, Italy)

Played his part in the build-up to the winner as the Sicilians triumphed 1-0 at home against Siena and was otherwise heavily involved in most of their attacking play, taking up promising positions and unfortunate not to have scored himself despite having a couple of very good opportunities in the first half.

Luke Wilkshire (Dinamo Moscow, Russia)

End of Russian season.

Scott McDonald (Celtic, Scotland)

Rested for his side’s meaningless Europa League clash in midweek but started in their 2-1 loss away against Hearts, where he missed a few good chances to get on the scoresheet but played his part in the opener, the rebound converted when his header struck the upright. Substituted in the second half.

Richard Garcia (Hull City, England)

Replaced in the 61st of the spiteful 3-0 away defeat against Arsenal.

Brett Holman, James Holland (AZ Alkmaar, Netherlands)

Holman missed the 3-0 win over ADO Den Haag at the weekend through injury while Holland wasn’t in the matchday squad.

Nikita Rukavytsya, David Carney (FC Twente, Netherlands)

Match postponed at the weekend.

Dario Vidosic, Matthew Spiranovic (Nurnberg, Germany)

Neither were in the squad for the 3-0 defeat at Cologne.

Carl Valeri (Grossetto, Italy)

Played a full game and scored the second goal in a 2-1 home win over Frosinone.

Brad Jones, Rhys Williams (Middlesbrough, England)

Full games for both Aussies in the 2-0 defeat at Newcastle, where Jones was anything but convincing in the ‘Borough goal and Williams was largely anonymous as Strachan's side were dominated.

Nick Carle (Crystal Palace, England)

An unused substitute for the 1-1 home draw with Barnsley.

Adam Federici (Reading, England)

Played a full game as his side scored a late 1-1 draw away against Bristol City.

Shane Lowry (Plymouth Argyle, England)

Played a full game and almost snatched a late equalizer for his side as they crashed to a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Coventry.

Ruben Zadkovich (Derby County, England)

Didn’t make the bench as Nigel Clough’s side were beaten at home by Doncaster. Set to have his contract terminated at the club.

Patrick Kisnorbo, Neil Kilkenny (Leeds United, England)

Full games for both Aussies in the 1-0 home win over Southampton, where Kisnorbo was reportedly in commanding form at the back, backing up from a short cameo in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy match against Accrington Stanley in midweek, where Leeds won 2-0 and Kilkenny enjoyed another 90 minutes.

Michael Theoklitos (Norwich City, England)

Wasn’t in the squad for the home win over Huddersfield.

Oliver Bozanic (Cheltenham Town, England)

Match postponed at the weekend.

Bruce Djite (Genclerbirligi, Turkey)

Came on for the final eight minutes of the away defeat at Galatasaray.

Mile Jedinak (Antalyaspor, Turkey)

Played a full game in the 2-1 away win over Kayserispor.

James Troisi (Kayserispor, Turkey)

Came off the bench in the 52nd minute of his side’s home defeat and almost grabbed what would have been a fine individual goal when he saw his driven effort from range fizz past the top right hand corner of the goal.

Michael Petkovic (Sivasspor, Turkey)

Wasn’t involved in the 3-2 victory away against Ankaragucu.

Scott Chipperfield (FC Basel, Switzerland)

Swiss season finished.

Ante Covic (Elfsborg, Sweden)

Match postponed at the weekend.
