African Nations Cup: Algeria Goalkeeper Faouzi Chaouchi Determined To Bounce Back

The Algerians lost their opener against Malawi, but are eager to bounce back in the remainder of the tournament...

Fawzi Chaouchi (Algeria)
Algeria started the African Nations Cup as one of the outsiders for the title, but the north Africans failed to live up to expectations in their opener against Malawi and were thrashed 3-0. Nevertheless, shot stopper Faouzi Chaouchi is confident that they will bounce back.

"I do not think anyone expected us to lose this big. The result came as a shock for us and for everybody else," Chaouchi told Le Buteur.

"I know that we made a lot of mistakes. We had a horrible day and we were unable to meet our objectives. The heat was troubling us, but it wouldn't be fair to say we only lost due to the heat.

"I take the responsibility for the first and third goals. And I take this opportunity to apologise to the Algerian people. We promise to redeem ourselves.

"The next game will be in other circumstances. We will prepare for the match against Mali, which must be won, and then we will have to focus on the Angola game. However, the priority now is to win against Mali."
