Egypt’s 2013 Afcon qualifier postponed until late June - report
The Egyptian Football Association’s (EFA) request for postponement has reportedly been approved by Caf
By Rami Ayari
Egypt’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Central African Republic has been moved from February 29 to June 30 due to the recent unrest in the country that followed the Port Said tragedy during which at least 74 people were killed.
Both goalkeeper coach Zaki Abdelfattah and assistant coach Diaa Al Sayed have confirmed that the Confederation of African Football (Caf) has approved Egypt’s request to have their qualifier against the Central African Republic moved to an alternative date.
The switch means that the Pharaohs will play four official matches during the month of June in two different competitions. They will face Central African Republic on June 16 and 30 in Afcon qualifying and after having faced Mozambique and Guinea on June 1 and 8 in 2014 World Cup qualifying.
Meanwhile, Bob Bradley and his 30-man squad are still awaiting word from Egyptian security officials on whether their international friendlies against Kenya and Botswana will take place this month.
