Free State Stars insist they will not stand in new Zambian hero Kennedy Mweene’s way if the right offer comes along – but only if it’s an overseas bid.
Mweene caught the eye with some stellar performances as Zambia shocked the world by winning the Africa Cup of Nations final last night.
The 27-year-old was one of the stars of the tournament, being named in the starting eleven of the Team of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, and will no doubt have caught the attention of a number of scouts.
Stars brand manager Rantsi Mokoena insists they have not yet received any offers for their star man, but hints that they would let him go if an overseas club came in with the right offer.
“Kennedy is very loyal to Free State Stars,” Mokoena told KickOff.com. “In the last three seasons he has been receiving offers, but he has turned all of them down in order to remain with us.
“When we signed him he was an unknown 21-year-old and that is why he has been loyal to us.
“So far we haven’t received any offers, but if he gets offers to go overseas then I’m sure we won’t stand in his way.”
Mamelodi Sundowns and Ajax Cape Town are just two of the clubs who have failed in bids for Mweene in recent seasons.
