Piet Hamerg To Replace Khaled Ben Sassi As Head Coach Of Etoile

The Dutch tactician will take the reins of the team beginning on January 2nd.

Étoile du Sahel - Tunisia
Newly elected Etoile Sportive du Sahel president Hamed Kammoun held a press conference in Sousse today where he announced the eventual appointment of former Grasshopper Zurich coach Piet Hamberg at the head of the senior side.

Contractual details were not specified but it was revealed that the Dutchman will begin his new duties on January 2nd and would be seconded by Mohamed Mkacher.

The news comes a few days after the resignation of Khaled Ben Sassi who took over the team as an interim coach when Lotfi Rhim quit due to a run of poor results. According to infosfoot.net, Ben Sassi was asked whether he would like to stay on as an assistant to Hamberg but refused the proposition.

Despite Hamberg’s interesting CV, Etoile fans are puzzled by the decision not to offer the outgoing manager a contract extension considering that his team had gathered 10 points out a possible 13 under his guidance and was finally beginning to show some signs of improvement after a slow start to the season.
