Speaking to Mosaique FM on Sunday shortly after his team’s 1-0 win over Stade Tunisien, Etoile Sportive du Sahel coach Piet Hamberg expressed his satisfaction with the result, and more importantly, the way in which it was achieved.
“I think that those in attendance saw a good match between two teams that played well. We beat a strong Stade Tunisien team which has plenty of players with great character and their coach did good work also,” he said.
“I am very proud of my team because they worked hard and everyone gave one hundred percent. They tried to play the way we trained during the past week. We had a lot of chances and those come from good ball possession. Keep the ball and your opponents are no longer dangerous”
Hamberg, the first Dutchman to coach a Tunisian league side to date, was appointed by the newly elected Etoile President Hamed Kammoun, just prior to the African Cup of Nations.
At the time, some dissenters disapproved of the choice given that he was replacing a local hero in Khaled Ben Sassi who was still on a winning streak. However, if he continues to bring in stylish wins, Hamberg may well become a favorite in Sousse as well before all is said and done.
