Burkinabé Media Supports Danny Jordaan To Challenge CAF President Issa Hayatou
Burkino Faso has already raised its hand in support of Danny Jordaan to challenge CAF President Issa Hayatou in the continental elections later this year.
An article published in the Burkinabé media today says that the possibility of Jordaan as a candidate to challenge the incumbent Cameroonian, could not have come at a better time, although Jordaan himself has said he will not challenge the current president.
"Hayatou has been weakened by allegations of corruption that involve the current president. These allegations have also ‘eaten' into his (Hayatou's) immediate support.
"Although candidacy has still to be announced, Jordaan has already proved to the world that he is capable, not only in own homeland and organisation of World, but he has also gained respect within the ranks of FIFA."
The article acknowledges that Hayatou does not intend to relinquish his seat, but says that unlike in the elections of 2007 where he was unopposed, there is at least a strong challenger this time around should he be convinced to change his mind and challenge for the president's position, "one with an established strategy to occupy the field."
It adds that Jordaan is likely to get support from Ivory Coast FA president Jacques Anouma "who has a network of friends that can influence the outcome of a vote."
