Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has hit out at Hull City fans who taunted troubled full-back Wayne Bridge on Saturday.

The England international, who made his return from injury as his side slipped to a shock two-one defeat against Hull, has had to contend with excessive press coverage of his private life in recent days.

Mancini referred to taunts relating to his personal life that Bridge recieved from some sections of the home support at the KC Stadium.

"They showed him no respect, they should have shown more respect than they did," he told the Daily Mail. "But he handled it well and he was OK after the game.

Bridge was substituted with five minutes left in the game but Mancini was more than happy with his return from injury.

He added: "He did very well. It has been a difficult 11 days for him but he played well and is going to be an important player in the future."

Bridge's former Chelsea teammate, John Terry was stripped of the England captaincy this week after allegations of an affair with Bridge's former partner, Vanessa Perroncel, were revealed in the British press.
