EPL: Edwin Van der Sar, Newcastle United v Manchester United (PA)
Edwin Van der Sar is set to sign a new one-year contract extension at Manchester United next week, according to reports.

The Daily Mail claims the Dutch goalkeeper is poised to pen a new deal worth an estimated £5 million, which would keep him at Old Trafford beyond his 40th birthday.

The 39-year-old remains first choice for Sir Alex Ferguson, despite the presence of both Ben Foster and Tomasz Kuszczak, and the improved health of his wife Annemarie Van Kesteren - who collapsed with a suspected stroke over Christmas - means Van der Sar is now in a position to commit for at least another year.

United have been linked with Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer and Igor Akinfeev of CSKA Moscow, but news of Van der Sar's new deal will give Ferguson a further twelve months before he has to decide on a long-term custodian for the United goalkeeping position.
