Fabio Capello denies he 'escaped' England & puts exit down to a 'misunderstanding'
Italian denied he fled the country following his shock decision to quit on Wednesday and also refutes claims he is set to return to Italy and management in Serie A
By Simon Sinclair
The Italian resigned as England boss on Wednesday evening following a meeting with the Football Association over his public disagreement to strip John Terry of the England captaincy.
Reports in Capello's homeland suggested he 'fled' England following his decision but the 65-year-old insists otherwise and claims he is unlikely to return to manage a Serie A club.
"I didn't escape from England, I left only because a misunderstanding. I was fine there, but sometimes you have to leave," Capello told Mediaset.
"I will not return to Italy, I just want to relax now.”
Capello was also asked what Queen Elizabeth II thought of the situation, to which he replied: "The Queen is above it all."

Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce will take charge of England for their friendly against the Netherlands on February 29.
The search for Capello’s successor has begun and FA chairman David Bernstein has admitted his preference for an Englishman to take the post, with Harry Redknapp believed to be favourite to take the role.
Meanwhile, Capello showed his gratitude to the players he coached during his four years in charge and also thanked the fans for their support since his appointment in December 2007.
"I would like to thank all players, staff and Football Association for the professionalism they have shown during my years as manager of the English National Team," Capello said in a statement.
"A very special thanks to all the supporters - they've always supported the team and me in our job. I wish all of them every success in achieving all their sporting goals."
