Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand: Patrice Evra will feel his celebrations after Liverpool win were maybe a bit much

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has admitted that his team-mate Patrice Evra’s post-match celebrations following the 2-1 victory over Liverpool might have been "a bit much".

There had been much furore in the build-up to the Old Trafford clash, with Evra coming face to face with Luis Suarez for the first time since the Uruguayan was banned for eight-game for racially abusing the United captain.

However, the striker refused to shake hands with Evra, which in turn created a sour tone in already feisty pre-game atmosphere, with reports of scuffles between opposing players at half time.

A Wayne Rooney double secured victory for the home side, with Suarez also on target, but his strike was not enough to salvage a result. Evra was quick to milk the celebrations after the game, and Ferdinand has suggested the Frenchman may not have been correct in his actions.

Ferdinand, who refused to shake hands with Suarez, posted on his own Twitter account: “I’m sure Patrice Evra will feel that his celebrations at the end were maybe a bit much...emotions etc probably got the better of him.”

Following the game, Sir Alex Ferguson branded Suarez a 'disgrace' and suggested he should never play for Liverpool again, although the Scotsman also condemned Evra's antics.
