Gervinho has urged Arsenal not to sell Robin Van Persie, as the Dutchman’s future continues to be shrouded in doubt.

Van Persie has been the Gunners’ outstanding performer this season, netting 22 Premier League goals so far this campaign.

In a season of inconsistencies at the Emirates, the 28-year-old skipper has led his team by example with some sublime performances, which has caused to a series of clubs being linked with his signature, including Manchester City.

Cote d'Ivoire international Gervinho is desperate for Arsene Wegner to keep hold of their talisman, telling France Football:

"I don't want Robin van Persie to be sold. Arsenal is a team that needs great footballers and leaders on the pitch, and Robin is a player that pushes his team-mates to work more and do more during a match.

"It is a dream to play with him. He is the captain, the leader of the group, there is no doubt.

"I could see it from my very first day at the club. I believe when our adversaries see Robin in the team, it is a huge psychological shock."

After a promising start to last year’s campaign, Arsenal ultimately fell short in their quest to end their seven-year trophy drought.

The League Cup final defeat to Birmingham, coupled with a poor run of form, which ended their title ambitions and hopes of Champions League and FA Cup glory, sparked an exodus from north London last summer as Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas moved elsewhere to further their careers.

With the Gunners effectively out of the title race for another season, Gervinho will undoubtedly hope that success in the Champions League could keep Van Persie at the club. They tackle Milan on Wednesday in their latest bid to lift Europe’s greatest club trophy.
