Ligue 1 side Lille have boosted their defensive depth by adding Racing Strasbourg full-back Jean-Alain Fanchone to their squad on transfer deadline day, according to La Voix du Nord.

Les Dogues are presently flying high in Le Championnat at present, but that has not deterred head coach Rudi Garcia from dipping into the transfer market for a second time this January, with Fanchone following Ricardo Costa to the northern club.

The 21-year-old former France Under-19 international was close to joining the club last summer but the move fell through at the last. This time around there are unlikely to be hitches, with Pape Soure moving in the opposite direction. In addition, loanee Nicolas Fauvergue, who is presently the struggling Alsace club’s top scorer with eight goals, will become a permanent addition to the Racing squad.

LOSC had complained about the lack of depth in their rearguard prior to the opening of the window, but they have now made two acquisitions to bolster their back line. Fanchone, primarily a left-back, is the brother of James, who plies his trade with Lorient.

Les Merlus are attempting to make a defensive addition of their own, with Gregory Bourillon a target from Paris Saint-Germain, though there is still work to be done if that deal is to beat the deadline.
