Former Milan Defender Dario Simic Threatens To Retire Due To Dearth Of Game Time At Monaco
Shunned by coach Guy Lacombe, the Croat is ready to call it a day at the end of the season unless things improve...

Monaco defender Dario Simic has been frozen out of les Monegasques’ squad over the past season and has confessed in an interview with Le Parisien that he is considering retirement due to a situation he believes is bemusing.
The veteran Croatian centre-back, who previously turned out for Milan, has failed to turn out all season for the Mediterranean coast side after being snubbed by coach Guy Lacombe.
“Last year I played 27 games in Ligue 1 and I gave everything in a context not always easy,” he complained. “This season they’ve made me realise they don’t rely on me. I don’t deserve that. I have always been serious.
“When I signed here in 2008, Galatasaray offered me more money. This is not correct from Monaco. For now, my family feels good here, so I preferred to stay until June [rather than seek a new club]. I'll look when I'm free. But if I don’t find anything, I'll retire.”
Though the versatile defender has threatened to quit, he did say that he feels capable of playing “for another two or three years”, despite his 34 years.
Simic started his career in 1992 with Dinamo Zagreb before moving to the San Siro for nine years, the first three of which were spent playing with Inter. He won 100 caps for his country and enjoyed a decorated club career, including two Champions League victories with the Rossoneri.
