Agreement In Principle For Bordeaux’s Laurent Blanc To Become France Coach – Report
The successful young coach is allegedly poised to take over les Bleus after the summer’s World Cup in South Africa...
By Robin Bairner
Girondins de Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc has made an agreement with the FFF (Federation Francaise de Football) to become the next coach of France, Le Parisien has reported on Thursday.
Present trainer Raymond Domenech’s contract is up after the World Cup this summer and it is widely expected that he will be jettisoned amid public unpopularity caused by a poor qualifying campaign.
Speculation has already been rife regarding a potential successor, but Jean-Pierre Escalettes, president of the FFF, has already suggested that there will be four names in the running. Blanc was on that shortlist, along with Olympique de Marseille head coach Didier Deschamps, present assistant coach of the national side Alain Boghossian and Jean Tigana.
Blanc is in line for the throne, according to the Paris-based publication. The 44-year-old former Barcelona and Manchester United defender apparently met Escalettes in the latter stages of 2009 and has already had a rendezvous with high ranking officials from the FFF this year.
The 1998 World Cup winner has enjoyed immense success in his role as head coach of les Girondins since taking over the Aquitaine side two-and-a-half years ago, breaking Olympique Lyonnais’ monopoly on the Ligue 1 title last term. This season Blanc’s men are poised for even greater success, still in with a shot at claiming five crowns over the course of this season, having already won the Trophee des Champions.
An official announcement regarding France’s next coach will be made before the end of the present campaign, though it is unlikely to come before the latter stages of the spring.
