Shanghai Shenhua striker Nicolas Anelka has made it clear that he did not turn down the chance to join Paris Saint-Germain this winter.

A recent report claimed that the former Chelsea forward could have signed for PSG in January, but opted to move to China instead because he doesn't like the mentality in France.

However, Anelka has insisted that he never gave an interview to the journalist who revealed the alleged PSG snub, and said he did not hold talks with the Ligue 1 leaders.

"A friend just told me that I would have given an interview to a journalist, but I do not know to whom he spoke for info," Anelka said on his official Twitter account.

"Regarding PSG he made his conclusions alone. Nobody at PSG contacted me. But I have to say he is right on the French mentality! So once again a great invention!"

The 32-year-old Anelka previously wore the Paris Saint-Germain jersey from 1995 until 1997, and from 2000 until 2001.
